AIDA

Using the Internet to pique a visitor’s interest: this is possible with AIDA. What is AIDA and what use is it to you as a website owner? Here I explain the concept to you in detail.

What is AIDA?

AIDA is a model often found in marketing purposes. The word AIDA is formed from the first letters of the words Attention, Interest, Desire and Action. AIDA is a way of advertising that defines the steps taken by a consumer.(1)

This is the application of AIDA in online marketing

An advertisement according to the AIDA model plays into the consumer’s thinking and feeling, after leading up to seeing an advertisement. This works as follows:

Attention: a brand or product comes to the attention of consumers, in the form of an advertisement.

Interest: consumers develop interest in a brand or product

Desire: consumers get a positive feeling about a brand or product

Action: the consumer proceeds to purchase or some other desired action.

An advertisement according to the AIDA model pays attention to all the steps: this way, the largest possible group of potential customers is guided through the sales process.

The impact of AIDA on SEO

AIDA certainly has an impact on the SEO of a website or page. Especially in online marketing, it is possible to apply this model. However, it is important to use the steps within the AIDA model appropriately.

Getting optimal results from a campaign happens, among other things, by focusing on the step ‘Interest: with this you have to draw the visitor to your site and make him take action. With AIDA you make your site easier to find and visitors are more likely to take action. A good execution is important here (2)

My advice

Online marketing using the AIDA model certainly bears fruit, provided it is executed properly. With an AIDA marketing campaign, it is possible to achieve multiple goals.

We recommend paying close attention to titles, meta descriptions and the use of landing pages: this drives visitors to action faster. Keep in mind, however, that AIDA is not a complete roadmap: it does not take customer satisfaction into account, for example.
