My SEO techniques for 2024

It is vital to employ the right SEO techniques . This leads to increased online visibility and targeted traffic.

In this article, I list 30 essential SEO techniques divided into three core areas: SEO content, technical SEO and link building. These techniques give the SEO strategy for 2024 and the website a boost in Google.

SEO techniques for content

Content is an important factor in SEO. Good content not only leads to more visitors, but also makes them stay on a website longer.

SEO content involves more than just writing text with keywords for different pages. Creating valuable and relevant information is also important. The content must be attractive to readers and rank well in search engines.(1) Herewith my checklist for when I write content.

  • Write content using keyword research and content strategy;
  • Use a healthy mix of long-tail and short tail search terms;(2)
  • Whenever possible, try to grab the featured snippet;(3)
  • always write for the visitor and provide actual value, not SEO articles;
  • avoid copying and pasting ChatGPT articles onto your website;
  • provide content that fits well on a mobile screen;(4)
  • Make use of quality and relevant images;
  • Provide additional content such as videos and free tools for visitors;
  • Make use of sources (as I do);
  • quality always over quantity.

The most important thing here is to properly identify your target audience and develop the right content for them. Delivering actual value, Google will also recognize and appreciate this over time.

SEO techniques to apply in 2024 (video).

SEO techniques for technical SEO

Technical SEO is the foundation of a website. This covers all aspects that affect a website’s technical performance – from loading time to how search engines index a website.

Aspects such as mobile responsiveness, structured data and HTTPS security ensure that not only users but also search engines value a website. When I think of techniques for technical SEO, I think of the following:

  • Web site speed optimization (Core Web Vitals);(5)
  • mobile usability of a website;
  • HTTPS (a secure connection to the website);(6)
  • structured data optimization;
  • XML sitemaps;(7)
  • Robots.txt;
  • 3xx, 4xx and 5xx page optimization;
  • canonical tags;(8)
  • Technical optimization of images.

Link building techniques

Link building is essential for good SEO. Link building involves getting backlinks from one website to another. Backlinks contribute to higher rankings by search engines. Quality and relevant links also increase a brand’s visibility and credibility.

Effective link building requires a strategic and thoughtful approach. Simply collecting links is not enough. Guest blogging and establishing content partnerships can help. Also consider broken link building. Build relationships and create a network that adds value to a website and brand.(9)

Below are the most common techniques for obtaining quality backlinks:

  • guest blogging (paid sourcing);
  • guest blogging (writing a qualitative article for publication on a website);
  • Write linked content (this should be very qualitative);
  • Analyze and obtain backlinks from competitors;
  • “offline” collaborations (think sponsors);
  • respond to forums (these are always nofollow links);
  • submit the website to local websites such as Yelp;
  • publish case studies on other websites;
  • For Dutch websites: use home pages.

Even though most of the above techniques will provide quality links, it will be virtually impossible to structurally get many link entries each month. For this, buying backlinks is most appropriate.

Which SEO techniques are really important?

Each part of SEO has its own function. You can’t just say one part is more important than another. This depends on the website you are working on, the level of competition and market you are in. In brief:

  • Technical SEO is conditional for good ranking in Google (this can make or break you) and is very important especially for larger websites.
  • In many projects, content is the part that is worked on the most. After all, content is the ultimate value you give to your visitor with your website.
  • Link building is the symbolic engine of the journey and ultimately (especially in competitive markets) ensures the higher positions.

For each course, I recommend getting started with all SEO techniques for optimal results.

Summary

It takes a multifaceted approach to make SEO successful. This covers content creation, technical aspects of a website and link building. The 30 techniques above lay a strong foundation for better search engine ranking and user experience. The world of SEO is constantly changing, so keep evolving.
